Brief description

The main purpose of this position is to enable business and information technology (IT) leaders to make investment decisions that balance and prioritise current operational demands, disruptions and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organisation. Furthermore, the enterprise architect will provide technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards and best practices that support the clients strategic goals and ensures business and IT alignment as well as to guide solution architects. This role requires an integration specialisation.


Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Enhance and maintain the enterprise integration architecture framework
  • Establish and maintain a holistic enterprise integration architecture model
  • Develop strategic and segment level integration architectures
  • Develop and/or guide solution architectures for different projects with integration requirements
  • Ensure coherence of integration principles and mechanisms in the delivery of solutions to the business
  • Develop architecture implementation roadmaps
  • Govern the implementation of the roadmaps
  • Ensure alignment between enterprise architecture, solution architecture, architecture principles, information and communication technology (ICT) standards and integration architecture to ensure standardisation and reduce risk
  • Develop and evaluate requests for information (RFIs) and requests for proposals (RFPs)
  • Investigate and make recommendations on architecture decisions
  • Provide architectural advisory services
  • Participate in the relevant architecture governance structures
  • Ensure compliance with companies policies, procedures and other legislative requirements and ensure that risks within the function are identified, assessed and mitigated as such
  • Contribute to the advancing of integration standards and the optimisation of the integration facilities
  • Take a pro-active approach to identifying integration needs across the enterprise and work towards a target architecture concerning enterprise integration
  • Provide technical guidance, oversight, coaching and mentoring to team members in the enterprise architecture environment and motivate them to deliver integrated results
  • Provide guidance to service providers, contracted resources and internal staff on integration architectures and the identification of re-usable services and mechanisms in solution architectures and designs


Job requirements

  • To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of an Honours degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering or an equivalent qualification
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience, with three years in the architecture domains such as integration architecture, information architecture and data architecture, with at least five years’ enterprise architecture experience


Additional requirements include:

  • Postgraduate qualification in the relevant field (an added advantage)
  • Proven knowledge and experience related to the development and maintenance of integration architectures
  • Solid experience in making trade-offs between various integration options to address particular integration requirements
  • Solid experience in various integration capabilities and approaches (e.g. enterprise service bus (ESB),business process management (BPM), protocol translation and message translation and business-to-business integration)
  • Experience with extracting, defining and communicating principles for integration, from both functional and non-functional perspectives
  • Ability to act as a thought-leader for integration
  • Ability to participate and influence technical decisions in a fast-moving environment
  • Experience in large-scale transformation and migration projects
  • Experience with several integration-related products
  • Ability to provide high-quality documentation that is suitable for a wide range of audiences and purposes with strong customer-facing interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of ICT industry standards, risk management and information security
  • Must have utilised architecture frameworks and methods such as TOGAF
  • Working knowledge of architecture notations such as ArchiMate, UML and BPMN
  • Must have used one or more architecture tools
  • Working knowledge of EA governance and Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have good facilitation and presentation skills
  • Good leadership skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in analysis and problem solving
  • Must be able to function in a team
  • Must have good working experience in stakeholder management
